A RAISIN IN THE SUN

The Austin Black Theatre Company proudly presents Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the Sun, arguably one of the most profound and powerful plays written about the African-American family. Although published and first produced in 1959, it is still relevant today. It tells the story of how racial injustice impacts the dreams and ambitions of everyday working Black people in America. This play will have you both roaring with laughter and asking someone to pass the tissue.

SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE. DIRECTOR'S MOTHER FELL ILL AND PASSED AWAY.
NEW DATES WILL BE ANNOUNCED SHORTLY.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Picture
Thaïs Bass-Moore | @tibassmo

Thaïs Bass-Moore fell in love with acting at the tender age of 8 when she saw her mother, who was the epitome of an older sweet church lady, play a prostitute in a church play and killed the part. She thought if my mom can completely become someone else on stage, I want to do that!  Thaïs, a native of Los Angeles, CA, received her bachelors from UCLA in African American Studies & English and her masters from the University of Texas at Austin in Human Dimensions of Organizations. She has studied fine arts & acting at several institutions nationwide and served as founder and director of the Black Theatre Company of Baton Rouge where she produced many of her own works. She is co-founder and director of the Fearless Leadership Institute at The University of Texas at Austin, a holistic development program serving Black and Brown undergraduate women. She is the author of A Syllabus for Black Women: 110 Life Lessons for Sistahs in College and co-founder of The FLI Girls Podcast. She lives in Round Rock, TX with her husband and family. Because of her passion for acting  and a strong desire to provide community theatre in Austin she is relaunching the Austin Black Theatre Company.
